About the designer

Frédéric Pellenq
French designer and architect, b. 1990, based in Paris, France

ABOUT THE WORK
Frédéric Pellenq’s work does not focus on one object but on a collection. The collection is seen as a whole, an atmosphere. A specific world where the objects talk and answer to each other. A world that refers to a genuine or idealized place : its area, its tones and smells.

Through a collection, the artist can expand his field of references. Taking the word from the fashion industry, the process is thought as a common thread.

A thread that he handles, shapes and forges. Then, comes a new collection, a new thread with new references. From everywhere, cinema, painting, memories, etc. Any collection will create its own identity and transpose a specific vibe.

The objects are designed and produced by Frédéric Pellenq himself. He stages the pieces from his collection to get the right atmosphere.

His work is a symbiosis, it remembers the past crafts and its savoir-faire, through a contemporary angle.

Two more words have an importance : fantasy and dreams. The drawings of the lodge collection have appeared just before going to sleep and have been acknowledged in his dreams.

BIO
Frédéric Pellenq comes from the mountains. From the Hautes-Alpes, in Southern France. He grew up there. Between nature, snow and sun.

He studied at École Nationale Supérieure d’Architecture de Paris-Belleville (ENSAPB) to become an architect but also saw it as an opportunity to grow his sensitivity to the concepts of space, light and materials. His love of architecture comes from his will to work on interior designs, to think their drawing and comfort in order to have an impact on daily life.

At the same time he took several woodworking workshops to understand and tame this material and its techniques. He has also been Valentin Loellmann’s assistant several times in Maastricht, The Netherlands. He learnt to build a living philosophy from his own hands and observed the way the artist feeds his studio. A relationship of trust, sharing and friendship has resulted from this experience.

Since June 2016, he is an architect. Today, he chooses the furniture scale, going from the spread of the city to the detail of a chair. This smaller scale allows him to bring together two sides of creation : design and production. A direction that can be combined with interior design projects.
